Veterinary Technician-LeadFull-time: 4 day, 10 hour shift with a minimum of 2 Saturdays a month
Round Rock, TX
Animal Care Clinic is looking for a Veterinary Technician Trainer to join our team as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.

About You
As a Lead Veterinary Technician, you'll play an important role in pets' lives by providing comprehensive care throughout their journey. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to surgery assistance, to support services including admitting and discharging patients.
Experience & Skills Requirements:
- Strong nursing and animal husbandry skills including medication administration
- Excellent communication and client service abilities
- Advanced technical skills across all major clinical areas
- Strong attention to detail and accountability
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work well under pressure
- Able to work independently and meet goals
- Promotes teamwork and a positive work environment
Education and Experience
- Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology preferred
- Credentialed Technician (RVT/CVT/LVT) preferred
- 3-5 years of veterinary technician experience required
- Prior leadership or supervising experience preferred
- Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service
Role Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist with record preparation, patient admissions, and discharges
- Support client communication including scheduling when needed
- Model and uphold mission, vision, and core values
- Train and mentor new and existing staff
- Maintain required logs (controlled substances, radiology, anesthesia, etc.)
- Ensure work areas are stocked and maintain hospital cleanliness
Nursing & Patient Care
- Obtain patient history, perform technician exams, and assist in appointments
- Monitor patient status and communicate changes to veterinarians
- Provide emergency support when needed
- Calculate and administer medications (including CRIs)
- Perform cystocentesis and place urinary catheters as instructed
- Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, fluid administration
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Apply appropriate bandaging techniques
Laboratory
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
- Perform microscopy, urinalysis, cytology, and in-house testing
- Troubleshoot equipment issues when needed
Diagnostic Imaging
- Follow radiation safety guidelines
- Take diagnostic radiographs including contrast studies
- Use ultrasound for sample guidance
- Assist with CT image acquisition as applicable
Anesthesia & Surgery
- Assist with pre-operative assessments and anesthetic planning
- Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia for multiple species
- Operate monitoring equipment (ECG, BP, SpO2, ETCO2, etc.)
- Maintain anesthetic equipment and supplies
- Support sterile technique and instrument care
- Prepare and sterilize surgical packs
- Assist in anesthetic emergencies
Administrative / Leadership Responsibilities
- Direct daily workflow to ensure timely care and strong productivity
- Address workflow concerns including missed charges or delays
- Participate in schedule creation, PTO approval, and staffing adjustments
- Hold team members accountable to performance expectations and behavior standards
- Support coaching, feedback, talent development, and training initiatives
- Contribute to inventory management, financial goals, and marketing efforts
- Participate in leadership communications including meetings and huddles
- Promote an inclusive, respectful culture with high engagement and low turnover
- Support employee relations, partnering with management as appropriate
- Lead from the floor, providing real-time coaching and support
- Promote proactive client education and satisfaction
- Maintain compliance with required training and learning programs
Physical and Work Requirements
- Reliable attendance required
- Able to lift at least 40 lbs with our without reasonable accommodation
- Able to stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout an 8-hour shift or longer
- Adequate vision, hearing, and fine motor skills for clinical duties, with our without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to remain calm and professional during high-stress situations
- May require evenings, holidays, and overtime as needed
- Take initiative to support other departments during slower periods
- Other duties as assigned
