- Research Services Manager
Description
The Research Services Manager supports the Director of Practice Support with the strategic planning, administration, and daily operations of the firm’s library and research services. This role coordinates staff workflows, manages legal and business information resources, and ensures attorneys and administrative teams receive high-quality, timely research support. The Research Services Manager oversees vendor relations, budget preparation and monitoring, collection development, and implementing new research technologies. The position serves as a key liaison across practice groups, promoting efficient use of research tools, advancing training efforts, and maintaining service standards that enhance the firm’s legal work, client service, and operational effectiveness.
Position Responsibilities:
Supervise, mentor, train and evaluate members of the Research Services team.
Create and implement goals and objectives that align with the firm’s business goals to ensure the effective delivery of research services.
Manage the budget process and provide recommendations for expenditures for the Research Services Department and team.
Oversee the collection and analysis of data with respect to the use of services. Provide reports of that information to recommend improvements in training, resource allocation and team workflows.
Develops internal training for Research Services resources and coordinates vendor training.
Reviews, evaluates and recommends legal and non-legal research resources.
Performs research and serves as subject, industry and research expert for legal and non-legal areas.
Other Duties:
Promote Research Services to attorneys, departments and other end users.
Maintain awareness of current and emerging technologies relevant to research and training.
Maintain current knowledge of resources relevant to the firm’s core practice areas and client industries.
Manage projects and training as needed to support key initiatives and technical systems.
Requirements
Juris Doctorate, Master of Library/Information Science and/or equivalent degree with 5 plus years
experience in the legal industry.
Management experience, including the supervision of personnel, project planning and implementation.
Mastery of research methodology for print and online resources for legal and non-legal research sources.
Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, including the ability to analyze, evaluate and synthesize information from a variety of sources.
Familiarity with software and other technology used for research, and training.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Strong customer service orientation and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to forge relationships with management, colleagues and a diverse clientele.
Work well independently and as part of a team
